The Daily Kos Opposes Fox Nation

April 4, 2009

The Daily Kos has come out in opposition to the Fox Nation.  On the 27th of March, three days before Fox Nation went online, KingOneEye wrote a hit piece on the Daily Kos complaing about it.

“It was just a matter of time. With all of the white-hot, ultra-hyperbolic invective radiating from Fox News screens across the land, there was really no escaping the obvious end game. The usual suspects in the Fox Confederacy have been so filled with revulsion by the neo-Socialist path that they believe the country is on, that they can no longer abide nor accept it. So now Fox News is preparing to depart from the union with a fanfare, a blast of light, a loud swoosh and gong. And an advertising campaign.

On first viewing of this ad I thought it may have been a joke akin to the Colbert Nation. It begins by declaring that “It’s time to say ‘NO’ to biased media.” Was Fox News coming clean and denouncing itself? No such luck. It was just that old “fair and balanced” Foxian doublespeak. Instead, Fox was announcing the birth of a nation – The Fox Nation.

KingOneEye wasn’t satisfied with just attacking Fox News and the new Fox Nation, he felt a need to get personal.

This should not come as a surprise. There has been much foreshadowing of this inevitable outcome. Glenn Beck proclaimed his intentions last month when he said:

“…don’t get me wrong. I am against the government, and I think that they have just been horrible, and I do think they are betraying the principles of our founders every day they’re in office.”

“Not to be outdone, Bill O’Reilly joins in with his view of a nation that is coming apart:”

“We’d love to see America become more unified, but I don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon. There’s a struggle going on to redefine America. And in 2009, that struggle will become even more intense.”

“Beck, O’Reilly, and others at Fox News and across the conservative landscape, have been employing their airtime to turn Fox into a rallying point for rightist revolutionaries. They are recruiting “Culture Warriors” who will be dispatched to “Tea Parties” until they can shout victoriously that “We Surround Them.” The battle lines are drawn and the broadcast brigades are deployed and armed for combat.”

What is KingOneEye’s problem with the Fox Nation?  Simply put it is conservatism.  The American Left can’t abide by the term “conservative.”  The idea of Conservatism drives them into fits of rage.  While they scream about the First Amendment and free speech, they refuse to allow free speech for any opinions other than their own.  The Liberal Left’s, and the Daily Kos’,  hatred of Fox News and anything related to Fox lies in that premise.  Fox calls itself “fair and balanced.”  Technically speaking, Fox makes every effort to be just that, and quite successfully.  In fact, polls during the recent presidential race showed that Fox News was approximately equal on stories favorable to the liberal and conservative candidates, roughly 45%.  The other networks were considerably more skewed towards the liberal candidate.  Why?  Because any favorable mention of the conservative candidate, or of conservative beliefs,  is not allowed in the liberal mindset.

Never mind that the left has the vast majority of the media pushing their agenda, Fox is the one that is in the wrong simply for having a different opinion.

The Daily Kos and the rest of the liberal media complain that the conservatives are dangerous and violent:

“But this goes far beyond conventional interest group pandering. There is a strain of hostility that runs through the conservative ranks that borders on the violent. Just last April, Rush Limbaugh was encouraging riots in Denver at the Democratic Convention.”

They don’t like that Fox News invites viewers to:

“Be a part of the REAL NEWS of America and join in the online community that believes in the right to express your views, your values, your voice.”

Doesn’t the First Amendment apply to all Americans anymore?  It definitely applies to those on the Left.  They complain about Fox and the response listed on Fox’s website:

“Indeed, the Fox Nation will be a “community that believes in the right.” For a taste of what to expect, just take a look at the community that Fox already provides on their Fox Forums:

Tom BB: America’s enemies rejoice now around the world and in the US. Obama the terrorist is in charge.

Steven: Hell No! Obama is of the devil!

drwoo: MAY OBAMA’S WIFE AND KIDS BE THE FIRST TO BE BLOWN UP, BURNED ALIVE OR HAVE TO JUMP OUT OF A WINDOW ON THE 88TH FLOOR (SPLAT). MAY OBAMA REAP WHAT HE HAS SOWN> AMEN!!!

Jim: The Antichrist has arrived and is doing well in the White House. Say goodbye to what we all know as a free and God loving America.

Jim P: WHEN THE BOYS FROM GITMO GET HERE OBAMA WILL GIVE THEM WELFARE,SECTION 8 HOUSING AND EVERYTHING ELSE THE STUPID ASS PEOPLE WHO PUT HIM IN OFFICE GET. LET THEM LIVE IN DC. THEY WILL BLEND IN WITH THE REST OF THE DC RESIDENTS! HOPE ALL THE LOW LIFE AND WELFARE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR OBAMA ARE HAPPY. BY THE WAY, WHEN WILL THE TICKETS TO THE FORD THEATER GO ON SALE?

Don Brown: Obama needs to be checked to see if he has a 666 somewhere on his body. “

While these statements can definitely be understood as being hateful, there is no mention of the hate-filled speech on The Daily Kos’ own site, let alone the hate that has been spewed forth on any other liberal site:

Just sit down Cheney for an interview.  Eventually, he’ll confess to everything.

That’s the sick aspect of all this:  Cheney brags about waterboarding & torture & confesses he thinks it’s okay yet nobody does a damn thing about it.

You know how the wingnuts love to pontificate about the “nanny state?”  Well, as of now, Spain is our nanny state.  They are willing to change our dirty diapers even though we cry like babies in protest.

A former Mafia member on Fox & Friends, wondering why Democrats associate with Soros: “One thing about mob guys, we were pretty patriotic.”

Those memos that that fucker John Brennan who should never, ever gotten a position in the Obama administration, is fighting so hard to prevent from being released must have some phenomenally bad shit.

I’m reminded how many scandals break at the bottom, and eventually work their way to the top…in this case, the rotten cabal that includes Rumsfeld and Cheney.

LOON WATCH: Bill O’Reilly never disappoints

 SEX PERVERT BILL O’REILLY

Got it the wrong way. I’ve heard of sexual molesters like him getting beheaded and stuck on a metal spear to rot in full view of the public during Henry VIII’s time.

I think the last person I would

ask advice from as to how to conduct myself in the Queens presence ( and unlike Bill I have had that pleasure ) would be O’Lielly. He’d probably grope her after stalking her.

It has to be hard for these clowns to understand that the adults have taken over — and the children formerly in charge are mired in irrelevance on the sidelines.

it tastes like burning…

Can we start ignoring these egomaniacal asshats? Seriously. What is there contribution to society? Do they help make this world a better place?

Why should we care what they think?

Why isn’t that lying, thieving, overbaked fraud Anthony Mozilo in jail?

Gore-Bush, 2000: Because even though Gore won, Bush somehow became president.

TX-GOV, 1994: Because if Bush hadn’t won that election, he’d never have become president, and America would be a better, stronger country.

Republican primary, New Hampshire, 2008: Because independents in New Hampshire didn’t know McCain was stupid enough to pick Palin as VP.

 And Clarence Thomas.

George Aitch Bush could not have won without questioning people’s patriotism. His support of some extreme NRA positions takes 2nd Amendment guarantees to the ridiculous extreme that wingnuts pretend the ACLU does with the 1st. Amendment.

Seeing how the wingnuts have disowned David Souter for thinking his duty to the taxpayers to be a Supreme Court Justice outweighs his duty to the Republican Party to be the rabid ideologue they expected; he may stay.

was on C-Span Fri AM and he said the entire 2002 Republican congress should be a do-over because they were elected based on the lie of WMD in Iraq.

But it goes on, the leftwing haters don’t even see their own hatred.

 Yes. And that’s also what’s great about…

…Fox News aggregating all of the right-wing radical nutcases on one network. We know where everybody’s at.

 Murdoch is some kinda fascist….

Isn’t this grounds for revoking his citizenship?
That would be one way to pull the plug on that lousy good-for-nothing network. 😉

I think the nice thing about getting them all clumped together and letting them turn up the crazy in their echo chamber is that it will be easier to pressure sponsors to pull out, à la UPS. I know I can’t support a company that will support treason, can you?

Fingers crossed, breath not held.

Given how spectacularly uncreative wingnuts are, I get the vibe that they want to reproduce DailyKos in Bizarro World. (Wing)Nutroots Nation as it were.

 So sad!

Just. freaking. pathetic.

Hey republicans, how’d your little tea party go?

What to do about this: divide & conquer!

Get together with your friends and do organized trolls on the site.

One person plays the Religious Rightie, one plays the Neocon Imperialist, one plays Big Business.  Be darn sure you are familiar with the language these respective subcultures use, and be darn sure you can do it without seeming like a caricature.

The goal is to stir up fights between those respective factions on the Fox board.  Find others who “agree with” you and pit them against the other factions.  Since the Neocon Imperialists are weak at the moment, you can focus primarily on splitting the Religious Righties from Big Business.

The way to do this is to encourage the Religious Righties to go for purity: “our issues come first, / my way or the highway,” that kind of thing.  Without naming names, use words such as “adulterer” and “(worshiper of) graven images” in such a manner as to get them into circulation.

Promote nutjob ideas that are plausible enough with your chosen role and its subculture.  For example, outlawing contraception, a tax on couples that don’t have at least three babies (“as long as they’re white, now the question is how to achieve that goal wthout saying so”…), climate change denialism, etc.

Stir up the Catholic/Protestant stuff, the pre-tribulation / post-tribulation stuff, and other docrtinal conflicts.  Republicans vs. Libertarians is another good one, but be careful to do it right, for example mention marijuana only in passing.

The people who still think that Fox, and it’s brand of conservatism, are legitimate, are too far gone.

You can can still have a cordial relationship with your father-in-law by discussing sports or gardening. Just stay away from politics.

While the left would dearly love to shut the right down and deny the right to free speech down, they need to remember the free speech is a two way street.  If it is ok for them to engage in “hate speech” it is also ok for the right to engage in what the left considers hate.  The Constitution guarantees free speech for all, not merely for those with the politically correct train of thought.
